9 Style Tips for Ladies in Workplace and in Business
1. Be true to yourself.
I am not a fan of the idea that you must adhere in office space. What I believe is that you should wear outfit that are fairly modest, acceptable office style. But within those parameter. If you choose color, then dress colored outfit. If you prefer heels, then wear heels. If you like to put a bold lipstick, then just balance the rest of your makeup with mild application. Just keep everything in balance and moderation. Being authentic to yourself is an excellent leadership quality and so adapt it in all aspects including how you present yourself.
2. Don’t wear excessively sexy outfits.
Choose office dresses and skirts with the right length, it should at least touch the top of your knee. Always remember that when you sit in a chair, your dress or skirt will typically rise up a bit, which can make it looks shorter. Be mindful of any slits on your clothing and never select dress with very high slits as it could be too revealing when you do some excessive movements.
Moreover, avoid wearing inappropriate dresses including outfit that show to much cleavage, make sure tops and other undergarments are not visible or in all see thru. Perhaps it is also a good idea to wear a sweater or jacket, as offices have a tendency to to be cold. Always be sure to refer your employee handbook for specific office dress code.
3. Spend in quality and essential pieces.
As a business or career woman, you would want to spend your money wisely. There are unquestionably ways to buy cheap stuff, but your business clothing should not be part of them. Though the up-front cost may seems to be high but in the long run it cost the same or maybe less since you’ll be able to wear it many times over many years, making it last longer than cheap items.
Always keep in mind of quality over quality when buying your workplace wardrobe, look at the materials and workmanship of the clothing’s you purchase. Aside from buying the quality clothing, take a proper care of them, have them professionally washed or cleaned often as required, hang them on velvet hangers, take your shoes to a cobbler when it’s time to be polished. Basic care can extend the life of your clothes and shoes!
4. Don’t wear open-toed shoes.
Wearing an open-toed shoes in the office place should be a big no. Save that for the weekend at the beach or for the night out with friends or anywhere else. It doesn’t matter if you wear wear heels or flats, pointy-toe shoes or rounded-toe shoes, but I do think you should stick to closed-toe shoes. However, if you really insist on using open-toed shoes, make sure to groom your feet really well.
5. Don’t overdo accessories
As saying goes less is more or keep things in moderation, also applies in workplace outfits and accessories. Accessories can be both good and bad if not balance properly. They tend to be a focal point, so wear and choose the best one. Select only the high quality handbag or briefcase. Instead of wearing many pieces of jewelry, pick something nice and elegant set of earrings or a simple necklace but the best you can afford.

If you like a bold lip, go for it. However keep everything fairly moderate and natural. Avoid overly embellishing yourself with things like false eyelashes or heavy eyeshadow; Use your makeup to enhance your natural look, keep a mirror in your drawer to double check yourself before going into meetings. Also, try to keep a toothbrush and toothpaste in your kit.
7. Choose the right color.
While we all love wearing colored outfit in the office, take in consideration the psychology of color when choosing what color of outfit to wear. For instance, red is a powerful color, but can also be seen as aggressive. Therefore, consider what’s on your itinerary for the day and match it with appropriately color to set the proper mode.

Every offices require different standard of attire. Does your office oblige full professional attire? Or is business casual suitable? Be sensible of what your office setting permits. Look how the executives in your office dress. What do they wear? Again, dress for the job you want, not the job you have.
